Two teams from the Romanian capital Bucharest - "Dinamo" and "Rapid" - fans rejoiced on Thursday after "Middlesbrough" fantastically eliminated another Bucharest team in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.
Three clubs from the Romanian capital have a long history of mutual contempt and hatred, and matches between these teams often end in violent attacks.
""Boro" are our best friends," chanted about 200 "Dinamo" fans gathered on Thursday at their club's headquarters.
More than 500 "Rapid" fans gathered at the "Giuletsti" stadium and chanted slogans against "Steaua".
"We consider "Middlesbrough" our friends," said Gigi Corsicanu, the leader of the "Rapid" fans, to journalists.
It was "Steaua" who eliminated "Rapid" from further competition in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals due to the away goals rule.
On Sunday, "Steaua" and "Rapid" will face each other in the national championship derby, which could be decisive in the battle for the Romanian champions title. With six rounds left until the end of the championship, all three Bucharest teams have the same number of points, but "Steaua" still has two games in hand.
