One of the best Spanish coaches, Rafael Benitez, has extended his contract with Liverpool until 2010, thus denying rumors of a possible move to Real Madrid.
The strategist from Spain rose to prominence when he moved from Valencia to Liverpool, with whom he won the 2004-2005 UEFA Champions League.
At the moment, Real Madrid is actively searching for a new head coach and has shown significant interest in R. Benitez. However, the Spanish team is avoiding concrete steps, and all decisions will be made only after the club's presidential elections.
R. Benitez himself showed no desire to go to Real Madrid.
The Spaniard has extended his contract with Liverpool until 2010 and is ready to do everything to improve the club's results.
"I have decided to sign the contract now. We quickly agreed on terms and now all the necessary documents are signed and submitted to the club," said R. Benitez officially on the club's website. "I am happy in Liverpool and hope that we will be able to enjoy our achievements next season."
The previous Spanish coach's contract with the English club was supposed to be valid until 2009.
