The newcomer of the English Premier League club has acquired Ecuador's national team and Birmingham team defender Ulises De La Cruz.
The 32-year-old defender, who left Aston Villa at the end of last season, has signed a one-year contract with Reading.
The player trained with the new club all week, but is not yet physically ready to take the field in Saturday's match against Wigan.
"I was somewhat surprised that Ulises could be reached. He is a player who performs excellently at this level," said head coach Steve Coppell to the club's website.
U. De La Cruz played almost a hundred matches at Villa Park over four seasons.
"I haven't played for a couple of months so I need to adapt quickly to be able to help my team. But in the last two days, I trained with my new teammates and really enjoyed it," said the Ecuadorian - "I will work hard to be able to play in the starting lineup. I want to maintain my place in the national team, so I have to fit into the Reading team."
