FIFA President Sepp Blatter confirmed that "Real" and "Atletico" were investigated for the same violation for which "Barcelona" received a transfer market penalty.
The Champions League winners could not register new players during two transfer windows because they violated FIFA rules by acquiring footballers under the age of 18.
Blatter, who is currently suspended from his duties, confirmed that both Madrid teams were also investigated for similar violations.
"The FIFA disciplinary committee had started an investigation into the "Real" and "Atletico" teams for the same violations as the "Barcelona" team. I know that these cases have already been closed, but I do not know the sanctions imposed on the clubs, and at this point, I cannot even enter the FIFA headquarters because I am suspended. But if "Barca" was punished for violations committed by "Real" and "Atletico" clubs, they should also receive similar penalties," Blatter said as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
However, Blatter admitted that "Barcelona" could have received a harsher punishment due to how they reacted to the accusations and the investigation.
"Barca" did not act wisely by starting a war with FIFA after serious violations of our rules. It would have been much more beneficial for them to try to reach an agreement regarding their violations - in football, it always works much better," Blatter acknowledged.
The penalty for "Barcelona" will end in January, and the team will finally be able to register Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal in their squad.
