The first goal came in the 54th minute when Saul Niguez scored with his head. In the 74th minute, Antoine Griezmann secured the victory after a great pass from Kevin Gameiro.
Atletico Madrid is trailing the leader by 9 points in the standings.
In another match, Las Palmas defeated Sporting Gijon in front of their home crowd after a fierce battle.
In the last evening match, Real Sociedad suffered a painful defeat at home against Sevilla. Jorge Sampaoli's team crushed the Basques with a 4-0 scoreline.
Among the winners was Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored a hat-trick. Pablo Sarabia added another goal. Sevilla temporarily moved up to second place with 36 points.
