The Madrid club is increasing their interest in Spain's national team and the safety of Xabi Alonso. This was confirmed by Real Sociedad president Jose Luis Astiazaran. He stated that he had spoken with Madrid club president Florentino Perez about a possible transfer to Real team even before Euro 2004, but also emphasized that the final sum for this 22-year-old midfielder has not been agreed upon yet.

"There are some financial disagreements, but they can be resolved quickly. It would be good for everyone if we reach an agreement before the European Championship," said Astiazaran.

It is said that Real offered 12 million euros to Sociedad club and one of their players, but the Basque club wants 20 million euros without any player exchanges.

The Madrid club is changing its habits of only buying famous, attacking style players and last month signed a contract with Argentine national team midfielder Walter Samuel. The interest in Alonso is another proof that the club has decided to make radical changes in its strategy, which did not pay off last season. Now the team is paying more attention to younger players who have not yet proven their worth in top clubs.
