Recently retired Hyypia replaces dismissed Bayer coach (UPDATED) © EuroFootball.com

Robin Dutt has been dismissed from the position of head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. He will be replaced by the duo of Sami Hyppia and Sascha Lewandowski "at least until the end of the season": the former will be the team's leader, while the latter will be the coach.

The decision to make changes was made by club officials after five consecutive losses. The 47-year-old Dutt had been working since the beginning of the season, and before that he coached "Freiburg" for four years.

Hyppia ended his career at Bayer after last season. He told Finnish journalists: "I know all the players well and believe in them. I have no doubt that we will find the way to success."

In the standings, Bayer has dropped to sixth place and risks missing out on a ticket to European tournaments next season.
