Former Madrid star, Argentine Fernando Redondo has announced the end of his football career. The 35-year-old Argentine has been a free agent since the beginning of summer, when he left Milan, and had been considering his options during the winter transfer window, but now the midfielder unexpectedly announced his retirement from professional football.

"My career was great, but now it's time to start a different life," Redondo said in an interview with an Argentine radio station.

The Argentine also revealed that he had offers to play in Spain, but he rejected them because he did not want to play for any other Spanish team besides "Real" and added that he plans to continue working in a football-related job.

Redondo began his career at Argentinos Juniors at the age of sixteen. In 1990, he moved to Tenerife, and four years later signed a contract with Madrid's Real, where he won two La Liga titles and two Champions League titles in 1998 and 2000. After the second Champions League title, the Argentine moved to AC Milan, but spent two out of four years there recovering from a serious injury.

Redondo represented the Argentine national team 29 times, scoring one goal during his career.
