Referee pushed by A. Turanas earned almost half season disqualification (VIDEO)

Former Atletico and Barcelona defender Arda Turan, who currently represents Turkey's Basaksehir club on loan, has landed himself in hot water - after pushing a referee, the Turk has received a serious punishment, which will see him miss almost half of the next season.

In January, the player arrived in Turkey and got involved in an unpleasant incident during a match against Sivasspor. A. Turan's team was leading until the second minute of added time, but then, with just a few players from Basaksehir on the field, they directed the ball into their own goal, and Turan unleashed his displeasure on the sideline referee, pushing him and receiving a red card.

The incident was analyzed by the Turkish Football Federation, and the 31-year-old player was shown no mercy - he was given a 16-match ban and a fine of almost 8000 euros. This is the longest suspension in the history of the Turkish top league. Turan will have to miss not only the last two matches of this season, but also almost half of the next season - he will only be able to return to the pitch at the end of the first round, meaning that the Turkish footballer will be sidelined from his country's top league for more than half a year.
