Quite unexpectedly, the players of "Milan" achieved victory easily in these matches. Although the guests took the lead after 11 minutes with a goal by Uruguayan Pandiani, who took advantage of Clarence Seedorf's mistake, in the last minute of the first half, Brazilian Kaka sent the ball into the net from about 10 meters after Cafu's pass, equalizing the score. Just 22 seconds into the second half, Andrei Shevchenko scored a great goal through individual run, leading "Milan" ahead by leaving two "Deportivo" defenders behind and sending the ball past Molina. "Milan" was not satisfied with just a one-goal lead and continued to attack. In the 49th minute, 21-year-old Kaka scored a second goal with a long-range shot. Just 4 minutes later, the same Kaka won a penalty kick, successfully converted by Andrea Pirlo. In the last thirty minutes of the match, the guests from Spain attacked a lot - several chances to score were created by Walter Pandiani, Fran. Meanwhile, "Milan" tried to take advantage of the fact that "Deportivo" was giving all its strength to the attack, and still tried to counterattack - they were very close to having Andrei Shevchenko turn the result into 5-1.

"Milan" greatly increased their chances of reaching the Champions League semi-final with this victory. The second leg will take place in Spain in two weeks.

Ricardo Carvalho 71' (2-0)

The "Porto" club, represented by a Lithuanian player, defeated their opponents from France with a score of 2-0 and gained a significant advantage for the second leg, which will take place in France in two weeks. In the 44th minute, the Portuguese Deco scored the first goal of the match, sending the ball into the net with a shot from close range with his left foot after Carlos Alberto's pass. In the 58th minute, Jankauskas appeared on the field and moments later found himself offside. In the 71st minute, after he earned a penalty kick, the second goal was scored - Deco successfully passed the ball into the penalty area, where defender Ricardo Carvalho was waiting, heading the ball into the net. In the 74th minute, the Lithuanian made a great pass to McCarthy, but the shot was blocked by "Lyon" goalkeeper Coupet. After that, both teams attacked, but no more goals were scored.
