Revealed list of the best defenders of the year

FIFA officially revealed on Wednesday a list of 20 football players who are contenders for the best defenders quarterfinals. The list is dominated by players from Madrid's "Real", "Barcelona" and Munich's "Bayern". Last year's best defenders of the year were Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos, and Philipp Lahm. Players from the UEFA Champions League winners team who are contenders for the award include Daniel Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Raphael Varane, and Marcelo. Representatives from German champions include David Alaba, Philipp Lahm, and Jerome Boateng. "Barcelona" boasts four names - Gerard Pique, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, and Javier Mascherano.
