Review of Round 17 of the Women's A League: different victories for "Hegelmann" and "Bangos © banga

Last weekend, there were two matches in the women's football A league, after which the "Hegelmann" team from Kaunas district overtook "Vilnius" based on the points collected. Although the Vilnius team played one more game, the excellent winning streak of "Hegelmann" should worry them.

Match results:

FK Utenos Utenis 0:3 FC Hegelmann | FIFA+ match record | FIFA+ match summary

FK Saned 2:3 FK Banga | FIFA+ match record | FIFA+ match summary

A successful stretch. Although "Hegelmann" scored significantly fewer goals against "Utenos Utenis" than other recent rivals, the battle for victory was not intense. To ensure that, the team's captain Milda Liužinaitė did a great job. Playing just eight minutes, Milda opened the scoring with a not very strong but very precise shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. Later, the representatives of Kaunas district tried to shoot from a distance several times, but failed to hit the target.

The second half continued to belong to the visiting team. After one of the attacks on the right flank, Klaudija Savickaitė found herself in a good position. Her shot secured the second goal. A few minutes later, the players of "Utenos Utenis" accidentally tried to score their goal, with Rusnė Makarevičiūtė. The mistake of the homeowners in a perfect position gifted the ball to Rusnė, who sent it into the net.

Four consecutive victories - a serious statement in the battle for medals. However, it is important not to forget that all matches were played against teams occupying lower positions. The next match - against MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU team. Of course, this match will help answer the question of whether the "Hegelmann" team is really worth it this season.

Victory in extra time. The Gargždai "Banga" players have been struggling lately. However, as success has its limit, so does failure - these matches with "Saned" clearly showed that. The "Tigers" were behind twice, but in extra time, they converted a penalty and secured the much-awaited three points.

The match started with a very serious mistake by the Gargždai players, which Alworonga Debora Stephen Luka easily turned into a goal. Later, this foreign player scored again, but before her goal, "Banga" also managed to score. After a long away attack, a shot was taken, which was confidently saved by the "Saned" goalkeeper Gabrielė Vasilenko. However, to her misfortune, none of her team mates protected her, and the first to the ball, Atėnė Streckytė, equalized the score.

In the first half, the scorer of the first "Saned" goal tried to lead her teammate into the attack, but the opponents' goalkeeper Karolina Curukova was the first to reach the ball. She rejected the ball to A. D. S. Luka, who restored her team's lead with a long shot.

Immediately after the break, a "Banga" attack on the right flank ended with A. Streckytė's second goal. From close range, A. Streckytė shot in a way that the ball hit the crossbar, went into the goal, and then returned to the pitch. The referees confirmed that the goal should be counted.

Just when it seemed that the match would end in a draw, the "Saned" players themselves decided to change the situation. A forbidden push in the back of "Banga" resulted in a penalty, which was converted by Austė Bernotaitė. This victory for "Banga" increased the gap between the teams of Gargždai and Joniškis to nine points.
