Review of the 7th round of the Women's A League at "Topo centras Euronics

Over the weekend, in the central clash of the Women's A League, "Gintra" from Šiauliai defeated MFA "Žalgiris" - MRU 3:2 and returned to the top of the league table. In other round matches, "TransINVEST" scored a whopping 10 goals against Gargždai's "Bangos".

To the top. In the last month, Šiauliai's "Gintra" returned to where it was accustomed to being over the past two decades - at the top of the league table. To achieve this, the Šiauliai women's team had to defeat the recent vice-champions of the past few years - MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU female football players.

Just two minutes into the game, the Žalgiris women lost their positions in defense and were soon punished for it. Not having time to take positions in defense, they were punished by S’Phumelele Shamase, who struck from 18 meters into the near post. This was her first goal of the season.

The Žalgiris women did not have time to recover from the setback when "Gintra" scored a second goal. A confusion arose in the penalty area following a corner kick, which was likely taken advantage of by Thubelihle Shamase.

The second missed goal stirred the host team, who soon reduced the deficit to one goal. Polina Yanchuk, the league's top scorer, netted her 12th goal of the season.

Before halftime, the Šiauliai women created two more good opportunities, but goalkeeper Meda Šeškutė prevented them with a confident performance. Unfortunately for the goalkeeper herself, she failed to save the team in extra time when Kaya Hawkinson scored from outside the penalty area with a weak shot.

Even before this goal, a penalty was awarded to "Gintra," which was confidently converted by Aizhan Boronbekova.

In the league table, "Gintra" now has a three-point lead over MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU. It is worth noting that in the first round, "Gintra" won against each other with a goal at the very end of the match.

In the top ten. In the short history of the "TransINVEST" women's club, they had never before scored an impressive 10 goals in a victory. This happened in the match against "Banga" in Gargždai. By the way, this was only the second time this year that a double-digit difference was recorded in the "Topo Centras Euronics" Women's A League matches.

The first goal was awaited by the spectators for almost 20 minutes, but then the hosts' domination began. Before halftime, Mia Leneice Darden scored a hat trick, while Valeriia Postol, Krystyna Pereviznyk, and Irina Topal each scored once.

V. Postol opened the scoring, taking advantage of the ball struck from afar and first reaching K. Pereviznyk in the cross. Just a minute later, I. Topal doubled the advantage by striking into the near corner, followed by M. L. Darden's 14th-minute hat-trick.

After the break, the situation did not change. The game continued as if at one goal and the margin kept increasing like on yeast. After the break, V. Postol scored twice more, while Greta Valikonienė and K. Pereviznyk scored once. This Ukrainian player not only scored two goals but also provided five assists in the match.

After this victory, "TransINVEST" reduced the gap to MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU, who are in second place, to just two points.
