Review of Women's A League 8th Round and other matches

In the „Top Center Euronics Women's A League of Lithuania“, the matches of the eighth round were played, after which "Gintra" further solidified its position as the leader, and due to lost points, Vilnius district "TransINVEST" surpassed MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU. The fourth position is held by the women of Kaunas district "Hegelmann", who confidently defeated "Saned" in postponed matches.

The seventh round that started on May 26 was completed yesterday with a match between "Hegelmann" and "Saned" at the LFF Kaunas Training Center stadium. The intrigue in this duel did not last even ten minutes, and after playing for half an hour, the hosts had a lead of 3:0.

After just eight minutes, Simona Petravičienė made a powerful raid down the right flank. It was crowned by opponents' mistake in the penalty area and a penalty kick awarded. As usual for Mildai Liužinaite, she struck impeccably.

Just two minutes later, high pressure on the hosts led to a ball being taken over. Agnė Žėglevičiūtė drove it into the penalty area, where Karolina Zablovskaj scored from a few meters away.

During the rest of the first half, the ball ended up in both goals, and after the break, "Hegelmann" further solidified their advantage with goals by M. Liužinaite and Beatričė Globytė. The first intercepted the ball in the opponents' penalty area and struck from a few meters away, and the second closed a perfect pass from S. Petravičienė.

Derby

A few weeks ago, the "TransINVEST" club that upset the country's champion faced the vice-champions MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU last weekend and emerged victorious.

Despite the fact that the Žalgiris team had a significant advantage in gameplay from the start of the match, the first goal was scored by the visitors from the Vilnius region. It all started with Žalgiris losing the ball in the middle of the field, opening up an opportunity for "TransINVEST" legionnaire Kitty Madden. The latter easily bypassed the last defender of the opponents and successfully sent the ball into the near corner of the goal.

Not willing to settle for this scenario, the Žalgiris players continued to seek their chances and eventually found one. With the help of Iuliana Colnic, Paola Ellis equalized the score seven minutes before halftime.

And just when it seemed that neither team would gain an advantage in the first half, the Žalgiris players managed to make a very serious mistake and simply gift a goal to their opponents. K. Madden, faced one-on-one against goalkeeper Meda Šeškaite, did not miss.

After the break, all the attempts by the Žalgiris players were in vain, and "TransINVEST" seized another opponent's mistake, with Khrystyna Pereviznyk making a productive pass, and Valeriia Postol scoring the final goal of the match.

For 5th place

In the first seven rounds, Joniškis' "Saned" did not earn any points, while Gargždai's "Banga" won three points against the same "Saned". This meant that the weekend match had to answer (and did answer) the question of which team has more chances to stay on the fifth step until at least the middle of the season.

The first precise goal of the match was not long in coming. After the ball was lifted from a corner kick, it fell to Atėnė Streckytė, who became the author of the first goal.

Later, both teams could boast of half-chances near the opponents' goal, but for more than an hour, neither team managed to score. Only then did a two-player attack by "Saned" end with an equalizing goal by Natacha Bibi.

"Saned" was very close to the first point of the season, but a mistake made with seven minutes to go was not forgiven. Ugnė Jonelytė, facing the opponents' goalkeeper, scored the winning goal and gifted her team three points.

„Gintra“ back on top

After a long time trailing the MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU players, Šiauliai's "Gintra" won a hard-fought victory last week against the "Hegelmann" team, bursting into the top spot in the tournament standings.

The only goal of the match was scored in the 8th minute during the matches held at Šiauliai Central Stadium this year, with Sphumelele Shamase taking advantage of an excellent Laney Peabody pass.

Throughout the rest of the match, "Gintra" created several episodes to double the lead, but the team failed to do so.
