As discussions continue regarding the congested schedule and player fatigue, a new idea is being explored in England.
David Dein, a former executive of London’s Arsenal team, insists that the duration of matches should be shortened.
According to him, football referees still add inaccurate additional match time, while the actual playing time is around 55–57 minutes.
"I believe we should establish two halves of 30 minutes and only count the time when the ball is in play on the field. Then everyone will clearly see when the match will end," explained Dein, who has maintained great relationships with one of FIFA's most influential figures, Arsène Wenger.
"My thoughts are also supported by referees Howard Webb and Anthony Taylor, so now we will try to convince IFAB (International Football Association Board) that we should start trials on football fields," the Englishman confirmed.
