Former one of the best footballers on the planet, Brazilian Rivaldo, will continue to play in Greece. The 33-year-old forward has signed a new one-year contract and will represent Piraeus club at least until the summer of 2007.
The Brazilian superstar, who previously played for teams such as Barcelona and AC Milan, arrived in Greece in the summer of 2004, signing a two-year contract with not exactly the strongest Greek national football league.
"Olympiacos" officials were pleased with the experienced player's performance and decided to take the opportunity to extend the contract.
"Olympiacos highly appreciates Rivaldo, undoubtedly the best player ever to play in Greece, for his contribution to the team," the club's statement said. "The Brazilian has proved his worth on the field over the past two years, and after a meeting with club representatives, it was decided to extend the contract for another year."
Rivaldo, who will receive 1.7 million euros for the upcoming season in Greece, also expressed his joy in extending the contract: "I wanted to stay here. The team leaders also wanted this, so we decided to continue our cooperation."
