Captain Roy Keane stated that Manchester United will lick their wounds after the unexpected defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup final and will be a stronger team next year.
In the FA Cup final on Saturday, Manchester United had the initiative throughout the match, but failed to convert chances and lost to the London club 5-4 on penalties. This defeat to the "Red Devils" meant that the season ended without trophies.
"We will recover, so don't worry. After such setbacks, you bounce back," R. Keane told the Manchester Evening News. "We will fight. We will lick our wounds and come back stronger next year. Whether we win or lose, you always have to aim to improve."
The Manchester United captain stated that none of the team members blamed Paul Scholes for missing the crucial penalty, and added that the main reason for the defeat at Cardiff Stadium was the inability to capitalize on created opportunities during regular time.
"It has become common this season that the ball just won't cross the goal line," R. Keane said. "Still, the lack of goals we scored this year surprised us."
"It's little consolation to know that we deserved to win, but we lost," said the Manchester United captain. "We created plenty of chances, dominated in that game, but I doubt it worried the Arsenal players too much. They have the winners' medal and the cup, and we don't."
