"Atletico" Madrid learned Rodri's final decision on his future this morning, as reported by "Marca."
According to their statement, the 22-year-old Spanish national team midfielder stated that he wants to leave the team. He had two options - to move to "Bayern" or "Manchester City."
According to most sources, including Fabrizio Romano, the midfielder, considered the successor to Sergio Busquets in the national team, chose Pep Guardiola's "City."
"Man City" has already informed "Atletico" that they will activate Rodri's release clause in the contract in the near future - 70 million euros.
"Atletico" Madrid hoped for a negative response from Rodri, so in recent weeks they have been in intense negotiations with "Real" Madrid regarding his successor.
The shining star under Santiago Solari, but unpopular with Zinedine Zidane, defensive midfielder Marcos Llorente will take his place.
The 24-year-old product of the "Real" Academy is not looking at other offers and wants to stay in Madrid. He has already agreed on personal contract terms, so now the clubs just need to finalize the transfer fee.
Despite "Real" valuing their academy product at 50 million euros, the clubs should reach an agreement on a transfer fee of 40 million euros.
Llorente left the "white" team in the 2016-17 season when he played on loan at "Alaves." On the other hand, Rodri, who started his professional career at "Villarreal," returned to "Atletico" last summer and immediately became one of the most sought-after signings in Europe.
