One of the greatest Brazilian strikers of all time, Ronaldo, revealed why he left Barcelona club in 1997.
In 1997, after one season of playing for the Catalan team, the Brazilian moved to Inter Milan, who paid a 29 million euro buyout fee. According to Ronaldo, he had agreed on a new contract at the end of the same season, but Barcelona unexpectedly canceled it and informed the striker that he would be sold.
"The experience gained in that team was priceless, but continuing my career there was not possible and it was not my fault," the former striker said on one of Brazil's TV channels.
"I had reached an agreement with Barcelona for a new contract to play for one more month until the end of the season. However, a week later, Barcelona's lawyers and president decided that the agreement was not valid, so they would accept any club's offer that would pay 29 million euros.
"Barcelona continues to demonstrate its shaky dealings in the negotiation process. An example of all this is the case of Neymar. I think many of us still do not understand what really happened with Neymar's transfer," Ronaldo concluded.
Ronaldo, after moving from Barca to Inter, joined Real Madrid in 2002 and managed to score 104 goals in 177 matches for the team.
