In the Italian championship on Sunday, the remaining matches of the second round took place. Three clubs - the defending champions Turin's "Juventus", "Udinese", and "Livorno" - all kept their perfect record with away victories this time.
The most impressive performance was by "Juve", who crushed the league newcomers "Empoli" 4-0. Striker D.Trezeguet scored two goals for the winners, while midfielders P.Vieira and M.Camoranesi also found the net.
In one of the most interesting matches of the round, "Roma" at home lost to "Udinese" with a single goal from S.A.Muntari, disappointing their former longtime coach L.Spaletti, who had moved to the capital club during the summer.
"Livorno" achieved a dramatic victory against "Treviso", overcoming the Serie A debutants in Padua. The winning goal was scored in the last minute by C.Lucarelli, who was the top scorer last season.
In Genoa, a thrilling match took place where "Sampdoria" hosted "Reggina". The visitors came close to scoring twice early in the match but missed the target. However, the hosts took the lead first - E.Bonazzoli found the target in the 18th minute. F.Cozza equalized for the visitors, but in the middle of the second half, S.Volpi restored the lead for "Sampdoria" with a penalty kick.
The situation for "Reggina" worsened in the 81st minute when G.Tedesco received a red card for a rough foul. With five minutes left, A.Gasbarroni scored a third goal for the hosts, but the drama continued as S.Missiroli reduced the deficit. In the final minute of added time, F.Flachi missed the opportunity to score a fourth goal, failing to convert a penalty kick.
"Messina" managed to overcome a two-goal deficit and secure a draw against "Fiorentina" at home. They trailed after goals from L.Toni and V.Bojinov but equalized through A.Di Napoli and A.K.Zoro in the second half.
"Parma" continued their unsuccessful run, this time suffering a narrow defeat away to "Chievo". D.Mandelli scored the only goal of the match with a header in the 10th minute. Meanwhile, "Ascoli" managed to hold off "Lecce" and play out a goalless draw away.
In the last round of matches on Sardinia, "Cagliari" hosted "Lazio" and took the lead after just 35 seconds when D.Suazo sent the ball into the goal from 12 meters. However, the visitors equalized in the 13th minute through a header from defender S.Siviglia. Towards the end of the match, "Cagliari" player D.Lopez was sent off, but it did not affect the outcome of the game.
