On the weekend, the 22nd round of the German Bundesliga took place. There were no surprises in this round, and the teams considered favorites won victories, often by more than one goal.
The championship-leading Munich "Bayern" achieved an especially impressive victory, crushing the 2002 champion Dortmund "Borussia" club 5-0 at home on the brink of bankruptcy. R. Makaay scored three goals for the winners, while H. Salihamidzic and C. Pizarro each scored once.
Gelsenkirchen's "Schalke" also has the same number of points as Bayern, having recovered from an unexpectedly missed goal in the match against "Gladbach" and defeated them 3-1 thanks to Brazilian Ailton's "hat-trick".
Teams occupying third-fourth place also scored many goals - Bremen's "Werder" defeated "Hannover" 4-1 away, while "Bayer" also broke "Nurnberg's" resistance in a thrilling away match and won 4-2.
The battle for fifth place was won by "Stuttgart," who defeated Berlin's "Hertha" team at home with a minimal lead after a superb long-range shot by Cacau. Meanwhile, "Wolfsburg" at home left no chance for Rostock's "Hansa" team.
In the match of the outsiders, "Bochum" emerged victorious against "Freiburg," overtaking them in the standings. The match between "Mainz" and "Arminia" ended goalless.
