The first meeting of the eighth round took place on May 5 - the local teams "Zenit" and Moscow "Torpedo" met. The match was marked by a plethora of yellow cards and ended in a 1-1 draw. M. Samusiovas played the entire match for "Torpedo."
Moscow "Dinamo," awaiting another reinforcement from Portugal, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. On Saturday, playing at home, "Dinamo" players had to admit the superiority of Perm's "Amkar" with a score of 1-2.
The second Saturday matches also took place in Moscow. Moscow's "Lokomotiv" played at home against the "Rostov" players, who currently hold the last place in the tournament and are the underdogs. Perhaps the most dramatic matches of this round took place in Vladikavkaz, where the local team "Alania" played against Kazan's "Rubin." Towards the end of the first half, the "Rubin" team took the lead 0-2 after successful strikes from D. Ralf and A. Scott. Starting the second half, "Alania" began to play more actively and in the 55th minute of the match D. Bazayev scored. However, in the 67th minute, "Rubin" doubled their lead, but soon after "Alania" player D. Bazayev scored again, and in the 74th minute G. Bazayev equalized the score.
Although it seemed like the match would end in a draw, "Alania" legionnaire K. Tudor did not want to agree with that and, with five minutes left until the end of the match, secured victory for the "Alania" team with his goal. Seven yellow cards were shown in this match, two altercations between players occurred, and two goals were disallowed. After these matches, "Alania" moved to thirteenth place in the tournament table and left the relegation zone.
The "Krylja Sovetov" club, which, as rumored in the Russian press, is facing a financial crisis, played in Samara against the Yaroslavl "Shinnik" club, and perhaps wanting to deny these rumors, they won against the visitors with the help of an 11th-minute penalty. After this victory, R. Poška's club occupies the sixth position in the championship.
The "Moskva" club, after becoming the leader of the championship in the last round, failed to maintain this position as they played away against tournament debutants Grozny's "Terek" and had to settle for a goalless draw.
Meanwhile, the matches between Moscow's "CSKA" and Ramenskoye's "Saturn" for the UEFA Cup final have been postponed to June 15.
