Before the Europa League return match on Thursday in Spain between Bilbao's "Athletic" and Moscow's "Spartak," a tragedy occurred, reported lrytas.lt.

During clashes between the fans of both teams, a police officer was injured. He was brought to the hospital in critical condition but died there after his heart stopped.

It is reported that the 50-year-old officer suffered a heart attack due to a petard explosion nearby.

The clashes were provoked by "Spartak" fans. In the days leading up to the match, the leaders of Bilbao were afraid of the arrival of these Russians, considering them neo-Nazis and radicals.

The "Athletic" club's ultras organized a march with anti-fascist slogans before the match.

About 200 "Spartak" fans arrived in Bilbao. It is reported that five people were detained during the unrest.

"Spartak" won the match 2:1, but "Athletic" advanced to the quarter-finals because they had won 3:1 in Russia.
