Former Dutch national team and current Real Madrid forward Ruud van Nistelrooy revealed that he is not worried about not scoring goals for a long time, as long as he helps the team win games.
The 30-year-old footballer scored his 15th goal in the Primera league in this weekend's 2-1 victory against Celta Vigo, after being brought down in the penalty area by defender Jose Manuel Pinto. The Dutchman then converted the penalty kick.
However, the player, who left the English champions Manchester United in the summer and moved to Real, was heavily criticized at the start of the season for not scoring goals.
"I don't feel pressured by not scoring goals often," the forward told the Spanish newspaper "Marca". "My only goal is to help the team and make a mark in the Spanish championship. I am a team player and I want to be a prominent figure on the field. If I score a goal, that's great for me, but it's not my main task on the field."
Van Nistelrooy also believes that Real still has a chance to win the Spanish league and end the three-year trophy drought.
"Our challenge is to win every game and take advantage of the failures of our main competitors. I don't think the fight for the championship title is over yet," added the player.
However, this season Real can only win one trophy, as they were eliminated from the Spanish Cup by Sevilla's Betis team, and in the UEFA Champions League, the royal club had to admit defeat to Bayern Munich from Germany.
Real currently sits in 3rd place in the Primera league, five points behind leaders Barcelona and three points behind Sevilla in 2nd place.
