Ruud van Nistelrooy received an unexpected invitation to represent the Dutch national team in the European Championship qualifying matches against Hungary.
Initially, there was no place for the veteran in coach Bert van Marwijk's squad, but with injuries to Arjen Robben, Theo Janssen, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the former Man Utd and Real striker got another chance.
The 34-year-old van Nistelrooy, who currently plays for Hamburg, had announced the end of his international career twice before, but always changed his mind.
Now he will have the chance to take the field on March 25th in Hungary or four days later in Amsterdam, where they will play against the same Hungarians.
This season in the German championship, the striker played 22 matches, starting in 17 of them, and scored six goals.
