R.van Persie defends G.Hiddink: "Unfair to blame the coach, he works fantastically"

On Monday evening, the Dutch national football team lost 0:2 to Iceland in the 2016 European Football Championship qualifiers. This was already the second defeat for the Dutch in three matches.

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored both goals against the Dutch. After three matches, they only have three points.

Arjen Robben, star of Bayern Munich, did not hide his anger after the match: "It was not worthy of the Dutch name. We did it to ourselves. We need to look at ourselves. I have to speak carefully, because I am very angry. I don't want to show anger, but what happened today should not be at our level."

In the World Cup, the Netherlands crushed the Spanish 5:1, but according to the footballer, that is all in the past now: "We cannot compare anything. We have to look in the mirror. We cannot think we are good, because we are not. Euro 2016 will take place in two years and we want to be there. But a lot has to happen for us to achieve that."

Robin van Persie defended the team's coach Guus Hiddink, who took over the team from Louis van Gaal and lost three out of four matches.

"It is unfair to blame the coach. He is working fantastically. Iceland just waited for our mistakes. We made too many mistakes controlling the ball and in individual battles. I still have hope. Nothing is decided yet. We will do everything we need to. We won't give up," reassured the Manchester United forward.
