The last EURO 2020 group stage match, which Scotland failed to win against Croatia, was their last match of the championship. Having lost twice and drawn once, the Scots finish their appearance in the championship with only 1 point, but with hope that they won't have to wait as long for the next continental championship. Scotland's head coach Steve Clarke commented after the match: "I am disappointed that we couldn't fight for a ticket to the next stage. We need to evaluate the performance we showed in this championship, draw conclusions from it, and figure out what we can do better in the future. The way we appeared after a long break returning to top-level matches gives hope and allows us to enjoy progress. Now it is important to ensure that our nation will not have to wait 23 years for the next championship."
"Today, Croatia proved that they know how to play in decisive group stage matches. They were better prepared for it than us. It also contributed that we couldn't play as we were on the field playing against England. Everyone has a lot to learn from this championship, including the head coach," added S. Clarke.
