The Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o apologized for the insulting remarks towards the Madrid club during the celebration of Barcelona's victory in the Spanish championship.

The striker of the Cameroonian national team, the top scorer of this season's Spanish championship, on Sunday, in front of nearly 100 thousand fans gathered at the "Nou Camp" stadium, shouted through the microphone: "Madrid, cabron, saluda al campeon!" ("Madrid, bastards, greet the champions!"). The majority of fans at the stadium joined in chanting this phrase.

"I apologize for what I said," said S. Eto'o at a press conference on Monday. "There is what you say, and then there's what you actually think."

"I want to apologize to the fans, the club, and everyone else who may have been offended by my remarks. I apologize a thousand times. I truly did not want to show disrespect to anyone," apologized the Cameroonian.

"It happened because I was caught up in euphoria at that moment. I hope people understand me," said S. Eto'o.
