"Leading the Glasgow Rangers team this season, Steven Gerrard spoke about the extremely poor defense of his team after the first failure in the UEFA Europa League.
On Thursday, Rangers lost 3-4 to Moscow's Spartak team in an away match. The Scots scored three goals in the first half and led the match as many times, but the Russians still managed to achieve victory.
After the match, in an interview given, S. Gerrard rather bluntly stated that even children can handle the ball better than his players.
"I think that 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds can usually hit the ball with any foot, and even when you mature, learn, and take a position on the field. So, I am a bit disturbed by the way we played," said the English football legend on BT Sport.
"Usually when you come to Russia and score three goals, you can think about victory. I am very disappointed with our defensive performance. Today we showed two different parts of our performance."
"We attacked really well and were particularly dangerous on counter-attacks. Defensively, we didn't do simple things - we couldn't take the right position and simply hit the ball safely.
"The people who brought us to this stage and previously did really good things are currently not fulfilling the most basic details of the game," Gerrard, whose Rangers team in Scotland cannot boast of good results - occupies the third position."
