Last season's UEFA Champions League finalists, Milano's "Inter" footballers, on Wednesday lost to Madrid's "Atletico" club after an 11-meter penalty shootout and ended their journey in the tournament.
Despite the defeat, "Inter" coach Simone Inzaghi praised his team and regretted that they could not establish a more solid advantage in the first match.
"We are all very disappointed. Despite this, I told my men that they should be proud of this journey in the Champions League.
We did not lose the series, but it must be acknowledged that there were periods in these matches when we had to play better.
In extra time, we were better, but we made too many mistakes. In such matches, you have to pay for it.
It is clear that after the first match, we could have had a more solid advantage. In these matches, after scoring a goal, we needed to calm down a bit, but the opponents quickly equalized the result.
It is very disappointing, because, you could say, we held the ticket to the quarterfinals in our hands.
We are disappointed, but I am proud of my team. We need to quickly forget these matches and finish the work we started in the Italian championship," said S. Inzaghi.
