S. Khedira: I Must Blame Myself

After the withdrawal of the German national team from the World Cup, Sami Khedira admitted that he had to look for reasons why he played so poorly.

Having defeated Joachim Low's proteges had a great chance to advance to the tournament's quarterfinals, but lost 2-0 to South Korea.

The Juventus defender, on his part, was one of the most criticized national team players, although he had previously played a great club season.

"My personal performance remains inexplicable to me today," - Khedira told "Bild". "Just four weeks ago everything was perfect. I had my best season in my career, scoring nine goals and putting in some great performances in the Champions League."

"Then those two matches happened to me. I have not experienced this throughout my football career, so I must ask myself why this could happen. Both my teammates and I received well-deserved harsh criticism."

"There are things I cannot explain. For example, why I could not play in those two matches, even though I was in good form before."

"Against Sweden, I deservedly sat on the bench and in the other two matches I did not perform as I should have and as I expected from myself. I must blame myself."

For 31-year-old Khedira, this was probably his last World Cup.
