S. Malinauskas: National stadium could cost at least three times cheaper

Internet cable creator Skirmantas Malinauskas decided to react to significant news for Lithuanian football. This week it was announced that Vilnius City Municipality Council approved changes to the concession agreement worth 156 million euros for the construction of the national stadium. The tripartite agreement was signed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, Vilnius City Municipality Administration, and the investment company "BaltCap Infrastructure Fund," representing the concessionaire and the project company UAB "Vilnius Multifunctional Complex." According to S. Malinauskas, the national stadium could have been built at least three times cheaper - he provided examples from other European countries where arenas of the same size cost up to 40 million euros. In addition, the reconstruction of the S. Darius and S. Girenas Stadium in Kaunas with 15 thousand seats from the ground up will cost 42 million euros. S. Malinauskas raises questions as to why certain facilities, such as a library, are included in the Vilnius stadium project - the capital city does not lack such institutions, and many of them are considerably underfunded.
