After Iker Casillas's retirement from the Spanish national team, Sergio Ramos, who took over as captain, revealed that he still promises to play in the national team for several more years and hopes to break Casillas's own record.
The 31-year-old center-back from Real Madrid, who started playing for the national team back in 2005, is set to play his 150th match wearing the Spanish national team jersey against Germany today.
"This number of matches is special to me, but I almost don't have time to celebrate, as everything in football happens non-stop," the defender said at a press conference.
"My dedication to the Spanish national team is just as it was on the first day. I've been lucky to experience what any footballer dreams of with this team. I am very happy to be the captain of this team and hope to be here for many more years. I have a clear goal and want to become the player with the most appearances in the national team," added Ramos.
For the defender to achieve this goal shouldn't be particularly difficult - Casillas has 167 appearances in his record, so in the next few years, Ramos could surpass his longtime teammate.
