Defender Sergio Ramos, who has extended his contract with Madrid's "Real", claims that he could have earned more by moving abroad, but his decision was not influenced by money.
The Spaniard, who will become the team captain this season after Iker Casillas's departure, has tied his future with the "royal" club for another five years.
Once his contract expires, the footballer will have spent fifteen years in the "Real" squad since moving from "Sevilla" to the Spanish capital in 2005.
"Honestly, if it had been an economic decision, I wouldn't have stayed," Ramos said at a press conference. "I could have earned more elsewhere."
"It wasn't about money, it was just about balancing several personal and professional matters."
"For several reasons, I wasn't happy, but I never said I wanted to leave. I talked to the right people, but I couldn't continue like this. These personal matters have nothing to do with money," added the Spaniard.
"We resolved the economic situation with the president in five minutes. There were other things we needed to discuss."
"I won't talk about money. It has never motivated me - quite the opposite of the good feeling in the club and with my family."
"I have always wanted to finish my career here, if the president allows it."
"I am very grateful for the new challenge of being the captain of this team. I will do this job honestly."
