The captain of the Spanish national team, Sergio Ramos, appeared in a press conference for the first time today, when scandalous events took place in the team.
Let's remind that the Spanish Football Federation decided to dismiss Julen Lopetegui from his duties as head coach when he reached an agreement with "Real" Madrid. Although the coach was supposed to join the team after the World Cup, the infuriated federation made a drastic decision.
The Spanish media reports that S. Ramos had a serious conversation with President Luis Rubiales and clearly explained his position, but neither he nor other team players were listened to.
"We disagree with Rubiales' decision, but he, not us, is the one who has the right to make decisions in this federation," said S. Ramos.
"When you are the team captain, you always know a bit more than others. I expressed my opinion, but there was an institution that decided otherwise. We greatly respect Julen and know that all the achievements were thanks to him. There wouldn't have been any problems if he had continued his work, but his departure doesn't mean we will be a different team," added the defender.
S. Ramos also praised the new coach: "We all respect Hierro. We have known him for a long time and at the moment he is the ideal option for us. Tomorrow, we have important matches ahead of us - we will play against the European champions. We hope the start will be as we expect."
The clash between Spain and Portugal will take place tomorrow at 9 p.m. Lithuanian time.
