S. Vrevenas: "The adventure in Europe has ended" © fk-panevezys.lt

The football club "Panevėžys" has concluded its participation in international competitions. It was not possible to eliminate the deficit from the first match against Oswestry's "The New Saints" – the match ended 0:0 away.

In the match held in England, the Lithuanian champions had to manage with a significantly depleted squad, but they managed to play good football during certain stretches. This was also noted by coach Stijn Vreven.

"There are mixed feelings in my head. I think we played a fairly good match, finishing with a draw, even though we played with fewer players for half an hour. Excluding the goalkeepers, we had very few players on the field, so all respect goes to the remaining footballers who fought. At times we played really good football and had some opportunities. We were just a bit short on luck and managed to keep a clean sheet; so the match was not bad."

The adventure in Europe has ended, and it is good that we reached the second round of the Champions League; this is good for the club from a sporting and financial perspective. I am happy that we can now focus on an important matter – climbing to the top of the tournament table. Finally, we will be able to have regular training sessions," the Belgian reflected on the match extensively for fk-panevezys.lt.

S. Vreven also praised the performance of midfielder Domantas Vaičekauskas, who had to change position during the match.

"Domantas Vaičekauskas appeared in the first leg and showed a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He started the match against "Dainava" and performed well once again. I always tell the players that anyone can play; it all depends on their own energy. There was no reason to replace him; he played well and I praised him after the match," said the head coach. "He had to play in the midfield at first – he showed a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and fighting spirit. After that, he had to play on the right wing after a sending-off, and he also performed well there. He has a good mentality, wants to learn, is open to criticism, and I am happy for him."
