The football club "Panevėžys" held a training session on Wednesday at the "Haladas" stadium in Sombathely. It is in this Hungarian city that the return match of the third qualifying round of the Europa League will take place between the Panevėžys team and the players of Tel Aviv's "Maccabi."
The first match between the champions of Lithuania and Israel ended with the latter's victory by a score of 2:1. Stijn Vreven's team played two different halves and also competed on Sunday – at home they ended in a goalless draw against the leader of the "TOPsport A League," Vilnius' "Žalgiris."
The football specialist from Belgium is again expecting a tough match, but believes that his players are capable of overcoming the deficit.
"We are facing difficult and tough games again, but we have chances to advance to the next round of the Europa League qualifying. That was due to our home game, which we lost 1:2 after a poor first half and a really good second half. In the return match, the opponents will not play at home, but rather on a natural grass field."
"After the Sunday match against "Žalgiris," we gained more confidence, almost every player is ready, so I look forward to the match. As I said, it will be tough; we will have to endure certain moments. But still, I believe we have a chance to move forward," Stijn Vreven told the fk-panevezys.lt website.
The coach of "Panevėžys" also commented on Lucas de Vega's situation. The midfielder was unable to continue the match against "Žalgiris" in the second half, but fortunately, the injury turned out to be not serious.
"Lucas de Vega was kicked on the foot by an opponent and went to the hospital. He underwent tests, after which it became clear that the situation is not so bad," said the coach. "He participated in training; we will see what his reaction is, and then we will make a decision on whether he can play."
The match between "Panevėžys" and "Maccabi" will take place on August 15, Thursday. The match will be broadcasted on the DELFI portal starting at 21:30.
