On Sunday evening, an intense match between Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux kicked off the 36th round of the French championship.
In the beginning of the match, the home team players from Saint-Etienne truly dominated, but as time went on, the game leveled out.
In general, the first breakthrough in the match was made by the visitors, who had the opportunity to score a penalty from the 11 meters when Igor Lewczuk was fouled by Habib Maiga. Adam Ounas then scored.
However, the score became even before halftime after a great pass from Romain Hamouma to Robert Beric.
The second half immediately started with another precise strike, this time by Bordeaux player Gaetan Laborde.
Once again, the initiative of the match was taken over by the visitors who could have taken the victory, but in the middle of the half, their goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso made a mistake and Vincent Pajot managed to equalize.
After this episode, the emotional advantage was already in the hands of the Saint-Etienne team and they played more actively. However, no more goals were scored in this match and it ended in a 2-2 draw.
The result should not satisfy both teams. Bordeaux players played a draw for the second time in a row and now they are three points behind the fourth place which guarantees a direct ticket to the UEFA Europa League. Additionally, Lyon, who is in that position, has played one fewer match.
Saint-Etienne, on the other hand, are in seventh place and can only hope that Angers will not win the French Cup. Thus, the additional spot in the Europa League qualifiers would belong to the seventh placed team, but for Christophe Galtier's team, it is quite far away as Marseille has five more points.
