On Friday, Sam Allardyce spoke with team manager Freddy Shepherd about the possibilities of taking on the role of head coach.

S. Allardyce, who stepped down from the coaching position at Bolton on April 29, is considered one of the main candidates to replace Glenn Roeder, who resigned last weekend.

"It was a successful meeting and my agent will be in touch with Newcastle in the next few days to discuss things further," the strategist said in an interview with "The Sun."

"Sam is interested and hopes to take on this job. We need Sam's determination, enthusiasm, and ability to lead the team," said Newcastle team manager F. Shepherd.

S. Allardyce rejected an offer to coach the Sharks three years ago.

Last summer, he was one of the candidates for the position of coach of the England national team, but in this battle, he was beaten by his colleague from Middlesbrough, Steve McClaren.

S. Allardyce left Bolton with only two games left to play in the English Premier League. His successor was Sammie Lee.

G. Roeder resigned after a 2-0 loss to Blackburn on Saturday.

In the last matches of the season, Nigel Pearson will lead the Newcastle team.
