Yesterday evening in the English Premier League, six matches of the sixteenth round were played. After them, as usual, the leader remained unchanged - London's Chelsea continues to confidently lead.
The defending champions of the English capital club will play today and could gain an even greater advantage against one of the favorites, Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson's protégés stumbled again - at home, they couldn't break Tottenham's resistance and settled for a 1-1 draw.
In the beginning of the match, the hosts took the initiative and quickly took the lead - defender Mickael Silvestre from France scored. However, later the Manchester players gave the initiative to the London team, which eventually reached their goal - Jermaine Jenas scored a goal in the 72nd minute. Despite the efforts of both teams, the result remained the same until the end of the match.
After these draws, Manchester United dropped to fifth place with 18 points. Meanwhile, Tottenham, who started the season successfully, has one more point and is in third place.
"Charlton" club returned to second place. After conceding only three goals this season, the club won 2-1 away against Portsmouth and earned their nineteenth point this season. However, Charlton's team is already eight points behind the leader Chelsea.
In another match, a somewhat unexpected loss was experienced by the not-so-successful starting "Liverpool" club. The strongest team from last season's European competition lost 2-0 away to Fulham and is now in twelfth place with only ten points.
After a minimal victory against "Man City," London's Arsenal rose to seventh place. The only goal of the match in the second half was scored by Frenchman Robert Pires from the penalty spot. Interestingly, the goalkeeper had another chance to score a goal later, but unlike the first time, he failed to convert the penalty kick.
