Former Croatian national team coach Slaven Bilic is convinced that Luka Modric should have been included in the contenders to win the "Ballon d'Or" because he is the best midfielder in the world.
The 29-year-old footballer was one of the main players of Real Madrid last season, helping to win the UEFA Champions League and the King's Cup titles.
Modric received recognition in Spain - he was named the best midfielder of the past season, but the Croatian was not among the 23 candidates for the "Ballon d'Or".
"La Liga" is the league where midfielders do huge work, that's why he was recognized as the best in Spain," said S. Bilic.
"I think he really deserved to be among the 23 candidates in the Ballon d'Or awards. Luka is a courageous but persistent footballer. However, he will never win the Ballon d'Or, as this award is won by players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, or Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
"I don't want to say that he is the best Real Madrid player, but he is certainly the best after Ronaldo. Modric is the best midfielder in the world in his position," added the strategist.
