A scandal that rarely happens in Dutch football has caused a stir.
In the fourth-tier league, referee Jan Smit controversially officiated the match between the clubs "St. George" and "SV De Valken."
During the meeting, he showed red cards to three "SV De Valken" team players and one staff member. The scandalous work of the 61-year-old referee eventually bore fruit - in the additional 15 minutes, the "St. George" goalkeeper equalized the score (2:2), thus giving the title to his team.
After the match, as the celebration began, surprised spectators saw the referee himself joining the champions, trying to sing and waving the trophies.
Angered "SV De Valken" players immediately filed a complaint with the Dutch Football Federation, which promptly suspended the referee.
