On Saturday in the XXIII round of the Lithuanian football A League, defending champion Panevėžys "Ekranas" lost 1:3 (1:1) at home to Marijampolė's "Sūduva" team.
The residents of Panevėžys took the lead after a precise shot by Giedrius Tomkevičius (13 min.), but Nerijus Valskis (37 and 57 min.) scored two goals for the winners, taking the guests into the lead, and Marijampolė's victory was sealed by Marius Šoblinskas' goal (88 min.).
Having suffered their fifth defeat in the twentieth match, "Ekranas" remains third with 41 points, while "Sūduva", who won their tenth victory in twenty matches, regained the fourth position with 34 points.
Pakruojis "Kruoja" also won their ninth victory and climbed to fourth place (32 points), defeating Gargždai "Bangos" (23 points) 1:0 (1:0) at home on Saturday.
Nerijus Mačiulis (18 min.) was the author of the winning goal.
The country's vice-champion and cup holder Vilnius MFD "Žalgiris" (50 points) remains the leader of the championship, leading Klaipėda's "Atlantas" by six points.
