On Saturday in Milan, the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League season came to an end. The new European champion was revealed at the "San Siro" stadium, as Madrid's "Real" club emerged victorious after a penalty shootout. UEFA representatives selected the best team of the season, which included 18 player names.
In the goalkeeper position, there were two representatives. These were Jan Oblak, who played a crucial role for Madrid's "Atletico" club throughout the season, and Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Munich's "Bayern". Interestingly, there was no place for Keylor Navas of "Real", who only conceded three goals throughout the season.
The defensive line includes four finalists and Thiago Silva of Paris Saint-Germain. From "Atletico", Juanfran and Diego Godin were included in the best lineup, while Sergio Ramos and Marcelo represented Real Madrid.
In the midfield, the teams of the finalists also dominate. From "Rojiblancos", Koke and Gabi were included, while Luka Modric and Toni Kroos represented the "Blancos". Among the best midfielders, Barcelona's captain Andres Iniesta also made the cut.
There were six representatives in the forward position. These were Antoine Griezmann (Atletico), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern), Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez (both from Barcelona), Gareth Bale, and the top scorer of the tournament, Cristiano Ronaldo (both from Real).
The entire team was selected by a UEFA panel including Lupescu (UEFA technical advisor), Sir Alex Ferguson (Scotland), Jean-Paul Brigger (FIFA representative), Gines Melendez (Spain), Mixu Paatelainen (Finland), Thomas Schaaf (Germany), Peter Rudbæk (Denmark), Savo Milošević (Serbia), David Moyes (Scotland), and Mircea Lucescu (Romania).
