On Wednesday morning, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the final list of three contenders to win the 2022 "African Footballer of the Year" award. Former teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are once again among the main candidates to win this award. Both of them, with Liverpool last season, won the Carabao and FA Cups, finished second in the local championship, and became Champions League runners-up. However, S. Mane also won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal this year and led his native country to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The third contender, Senegalese Edouard Mendy, also achieved such success with the national team. Chelsea's goalkeeper was one of the main architects of Senegal's success in football, and also proven himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the "aristocrat" team. Players' statistics in the 2021/22 club season: Mohamed Salah: scored 31 goals and made 16 assists in 51 matches played; Sadio Mane: scored 23 goals and made 5 assists in 51 matches played; Edouard Mendy: conceded 40 goals and kept 23 clean sheets in 49 matches played.
