This year, the friendship between FIFA and "France Football" has been terminated, so both countries are hosting their own awards.
Today, FIFA revealed a list of 23 players, one of whom will become the best footballer of 2016. The main favorites are Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Antoine Griezmann (Atletico).
The UEFA Champions League winners have the most representatives. Among the 23 best footballers on the planet, five Real players are included - Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, and Ronaldo.
Barcelona has four representatives. They are Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta, Neymar, and Messi.
Among the top 23 players, there are also three representatives from the English champions Leicester - Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, and N'Golo Kante. However, the latter has moved to London's Chelsea this season.
Also nominated for the Best Player of the Year award are two goalkeepers - Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern).
