Sending Poles to knockout: lack of concentration and cruelty on both sides of the court © ZUMAPRESS.com

Driven by high ambitions, the Polish team, who arrived at EURO 2020, had to admit the superiority of their neighbors, the Slovaks, in their debut championship match and come to terms with the idea that the remaining two matches will determine their qualification to the next stage. The team's strategist, Paulo Sousa, was asked to explain the reasons for such a performance to the Polish fans after the match and commented: "The loss was determined by small details, and the result was disappointing. I am convinced that we can play better, but in the match against Slovakia, we lacked concentration, which hindered us from making good decisions. Maybe we need to deal with psychology and physical condition here." He added, "We lack quality in our attacks - in our decision-making, in our passes. We had three opportunities to equalize the match, but we didn't take advantage of them. In the first part of the match, we lacked aggression in the final third. In the second half, we looked better, and we need to build on that and not lose our positivity." Polish national team defender Jan Bednarek said after the match: "We controlled the game and created dangerous situations, but we lacked sharpness both defensively and in our opponents' half. We have to ask ourselves what we can do better because in the upcoming championship matches, we will face Spain - one of the best national teams in the world. We need to be better and stay united."
