The famous Brazilian "Maracana" stadium, which holds 79 thousand fans, is already waiting for the South American Championship finalists - Brazil and Peru. In the second semifinal match on Thursday, the Peru national team, which was considered an outsider, unexpectedly defeated Chile 3:0 (2:0).
The outcome of these matches was already clear in the first half, when Edison Flores scored the first goal in the 21st minute, and Yoshimar Yotun doubled the lead in the 38th minute.
Chile did everything to regain the initiative - they even had 19 shots on goal (Peru had only 9), took control of the ball possession - Chileans controlled the ball 66 percent of the time, but failed to score.
As the match was coming to an end, in the added time José Paolo Guerrero added the final nail to Chile's coffin.
This was already the 13th goal of the 35-year-old player in continental championships and he moved into fifth place in terms of goal scoring. The Peruvian player equaled Argentine Gabriel Batistuta in goals.
Peru barely advanced to the semifinals, defeating Uruguay on penalties.
On July 7th, Peru and Brazil will compete in the final for the trophy. Brazil defeated Argentina 2:0 and will compete for the trophy after a 12-year hiatus.
In the battle for third place, Chile will face Argentina.
