Sensational Champions League night in Liverpool ends with "Atletico" triumph

On Wednesday evening, two participants of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals were revealed. An incredible drama unfolded at Anfield Stadium, where Liverpool experienced a true fiasco.

Jurgen Klopp's team, dominating the entire 90 minutes, once again succumbed to Madrid's Atletico team after a disastrously long extra time and ended their tournament performance.

In the first leg, Atletico won 1-0, and advanced to the quarterfinals with a total score of 4-2.

"Liverpool", as predictably expected, dominated from the start of the match and forced Jan Oblak to work seriously. The first goal came in the 43rd minute when Georginio Wijnaldum scored with a header.

In the second half, Liverpool continued their assault, but Atletico held firm in defense and pushed the match into extra time. The home team started fantastically - in the 4th minute of extra time, Roberto Firmino sent the ball into Atletico's goal and seemed to lead Liverpool to the next stage.

Anfield felt a victorious atmosphere, but the hosts were punished by a surprising Atletico weapon - Marcos Llorente, who appeared in midfield after a substitution.

In the 97th minute, the Spaniard scored after Adriano's mistake, narrowing the gap to one goal and giving Atletico the advantage back. And that wasn't the end of the Spaniard's show - in the 105th minute, M. Llorente, after a pass from Alvaro Morata, directed the ball into Adriano's goal with a distant shot.

With that, all of Liverpool's hopes of recovery were dashed - they needed to score two goals in the final 15 minutes. Liverpool not only failed to score more, but also conceded a goal in the final moments of the match when A. Morata sprinted after M. Llorente's pass and gifted the team a victory - 3:2.

Liverpool hadn't lost a Champions League home match in over seven years. The last time the "Reds" were also defeated by a Madrid club - Real.

Meanwhile, in Paris, PSG players defeated Dortmund's Borussia 2-0 and continued their journey towards the final. In the first leg, BVB won 2-1.

Playing in an empty stadium, the Parisians took the lead in the 28th minute when Neymar scored after a corner kick. The decisive blow to BVB was dealt at the end of the first half - Juan Bernat scored.

In the second half, BVB did not have dangerous opportunities and PSG easily advanced to the quarterfinals, where they last played in 2016.
