The 2004 Russian champion club, for the first time in its history, appointed a foreigner to the head coach position - Serb Slavoljub Muslin, who will train the Moscow team from next year.
Muslin, a 52-year-old coach who has worked with more than 10 teams, currently leading the "Lokeren" team, will leave Belgium after the start of the winter break on December 21st and sign a two-year contract with "Lokomotiv," which can later be extended for another year.
"We had a list of candidates and decided that Muslin would suit us best. He always raises his teams to a higher level, not only the teams but also the players. This is important, because we have many young players in the squad," said "Lokomotiv" president Valery Filatov.
Instead of the strategist from the Russian capital's team, the specialist from Serbia and Montenegro will replace Vladimir Yashtrikov, who was fired after eight months in the club at the end of an unsuccessful season. Under the latter's leadership, "Lokomotiv" managed to waste an 11-point lead over their pursuers and ended up just in third place, behind Moscow's "CSKA" and "Spartak" teams.
Nevertheless, the "Railwaymen's" season is not over yet, as the team has successfully performed in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup, where they currently lead Group B with 7 points before the final round and already have a ticket to the next stage.
